Darby Bailey

Voluntarily removed from parochial school in the 4th grade over sexual content in a book she was publishing for friends, Darby Bailey eventually went from downtown Salt Lake City to Santa Cruz to L.A., where she is pursing her B.A. degree at Antioch University. When she’s not writing, Darby makes a living as a voice over artist, actress and musician. She is a proud resident of downtown Los Angeles and supports it’s revitalization.

Philip Barragán

Philip Charles Barragán II hails from the San Fernando Valley, California (the one and only valley). Born three years before the Summer of Love, always ahead of his time, Philip enjoys exploring his family roots and writing fiction and creative non-fiction in his almost non-existent free time. Philip spends his days working for the Office of AIDS Programs and Policy supervising a team of auditors monitoring contracted agencies providing direct client services to individuals living with HIV/AIDS in Los Angeles County.

Kurt Bloom

Born Seattle 1968. There really isn’t much to say about Kurt Bloom until he turned fourteen. This is when he wrote his first one-act play. Three riveting pages titled “Thank you for letting me out of the box, Mother Dear, Mother Dear”. This drew very small audiences but at least they were quiet. Currently working on his third screenplay, he resides in Hollywood.

Casey Cohen

Casey is a working composer of music for film, television and theater and comes back to school to explore the subtly related field of psychology. With an admiration for all art that provokes thought, regardless of genre, he is grateful for the opportunity to contribute to THQ.

Wendy Hudson

wendy hudson as butterfly

A native of Toronto, Canada, Wendy’s work was first published after winning a school district writing contest at the age of ten.  She then went on to develop a severe case of writer’s block that lasted for just over thirty years.  This condition did not stop her from having a long and strange career in advertising which she eventually gave up to pursue her B.A. at Antioch University. Wendy enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter, writing captions for cartoons in The New Yorker, solving diabolical Sudoku puzzles, and watching AYSO games.  She maintains that the three most important food groups are coffee, wine and chocolate.

Megan McCord

Megan has been a writer all her life but only recently started writing her stories down; an apparent requirement of the Antioch University B.A. in Creative Writing. A Los Angeles native, Megan enjoys staying home, the drive-through car wash and avoiding the sun.

Melanie L. McNair

Melanie is originally from the mountains of Western North Carolina and has lived in Los Angeles since 2000. When she is not hovering over her laptop, plinking out what will eventually become short stories, she is running long distances or day dreaming about travels to exotic places.

Eric Robinson

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Eric Robinson, Jr. is a student in the BA program at Antioch University. Eric’s influences include, but are not limited to, the 80’s crack epidemic, rap music and being raised in a fundamentalist Christian organization.

Catina Slade

catinaslade

Enjoys word play ever since she wrote a poem for a childhood friend which helped mend a broken relationship. Her two children, Cameron and Courtney are her rays of sunshine and now that they have a life of their own, she is completing her BA degree and writing her way into the world.

Joan Sutton

Joan Sutton

As a native Californian, Joan Sutton loves traveling the world but always enjoys returning home to the sunshine state and her two BFF’s (Best Furry Friends). After 10 years of procrastinating to finish her BA degree and truly believing that everything happens for a reason, the life changing moments that inspired her to jump back into the academic world have added rich fulfillment in her life. Joan is thankful to be a student at Antioch and to contribute to THQ.

Loretta Williams

Loretta Williams is from the East Coast and finds herself rather misplaced in the nonstop sunshine and rabid car culture of Los Angeles. She makes her living as a public radio producer and editor. When she’s not up to her eyeballs in work she’s writing short stories and transforming her yard into a native plant garden.

Donald Strauss, M.F.A.

Faculty Advisor

Donald Strauss is a member of the Core Faculty and has been teaching in the B.A. Program at Antioch Los Angeles since 2000. He is currently preparing his novel, The Built World, for web publication. The novel is an examination of the human and natural costs related to the ongoing project of developing and constructing urban and suburban environments. The major themes of the novel have been informed by his longstanding participation in several environmental organizations that promote the preservation, restoration and development of natural habitat and green space in the Greater Los Angeles area.
